I.D. Theft: First Four Steps

Upon suspecting you have experienced ID theft or fraud here are the immediate steps you should follow:

1. Place a fraud alert on your credit reports, asking for a FREE CREDIT REPORT and review them to check for evidence of accounts or activities you did not authorize.

 2. Close accounts, especially those checking and ATM cards that have been tampered with. Contact all of the financial institutions, banks,credit cards, Social Security Administration, and even utility companies. Notify them of the ID theft and fraud. Do this both by phone and certified mail...
